I am touched by the e-mail of our CFO regarding his initiative to help the victims of the typhoon Sendong here in the Phil. He asked our help – the whole F&A department with his plan. I want to share it with everyone.

My dear colleagues,

Perhaps all of you have seen the devastation brought about by the recent typhoon in the south.  The number of lives lost was staggering and mind-blowing.  The extent of death and destruction has been incredible that for us who have been fortunate and have been spared by the catastrophe, doing nothing to help appears to be not an option at all.  I sincerely believe that there are a lot of us who feel that it is hard to do something with little that we have. Sydney Smith, an English writer once said, “It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do little – do what you can.”  There are people out there who are in dire situation and we all can help in our own little way.  Let’s take this opportunity live up to the spirit of Christmas which is about caring, sharing and giving.  Life, again, presents us a chance to enhance the human spirit by caring for our fellowmen who are in need.  Stephen Grellet, a Quaker Missionary, wrote “I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now; let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”

The Finance team has already raised <insert amount> among themselves.  We are hoping we can double this amount after the CSR committee sent the email.  You can opt to donate in kind but as what the Finance team decided, donation in cash will be more efficient.  The plan is to turnover the proceeds on behalf of <insert company name> to the Philippine National Red Cross who has the infrastructure to reach the affected areas faster given their volunteers have already been deployed.  The Finance team also volunteered to help collect your donations.  They will go around tomorrow to your department to help gather the donations.  Please open your hearts (and wallets) for this really worthy cause.  One good news is ADP (The president) agreed for the company to match whatever amount we can collect and donate the same.  Winston Churchill, the wartime Prime Minister of UK, said “We make a living by what we get but we make a life by what we give.”  I am sure our lives will be richer with our acts of generosity and let us also show how caring <insert company name> people are.

All the best to everyone during the holidays.

The following day, we surprised everyone that we’ll be having a Christmas Caroling per department as a way to collect their donations. The whole F&A team are busy, but still, we all spent time to do this to help.

I am pleased to report to you that as of lunchtime today we have raised a total amount of Php<insert amount> and some donation in kind.  There is more that are expected to trickle in.  This means that with the matching donation of the company we will be able to turnover at least Php<insert amount> to the Philippine National Red Cross, one of the leading NGO taking care of the victims of the typhoon.  We know the needs of the victims are great and we won’t even know if they will be all served by the different institutions doing relief work.  One thing we are sure of is your generosity will go a long way towards giving the victims the most difficult thing to find in that place, that is HOPE.  As of yesterday, it was reported that there are now more than 1,000 people who died from the tragedy.  Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year for most of the world but sadly despair and hopelessness envelope the lives of those who lived there.  H. Jackson Brown, Jr., an American best selling author, wrote “Never deprive someone hope, it might be all they have.”  As long as the affected people know that there are generous people who are extending their hand, it will give them hope.  So please continue to help in the cause to rebuild the lives of those that have been affected.

<insert company name> Management is proud of the overwhelming response that you gave.  I am personally privileged to find myself in the company of compassionate and caring people. You should all feel good because your kindness can only make you richer.  Thank you so much for your generosity.  I sincerely believe that if what we do and achieve define the strength and character of our organization, our collective compassion to help those in need defines the soul this organization.

Again, all the best during the holidays and may the new year bring peace and prosperity to you and your families.

Everything has been said. I hope you’ll be touched too and please do everything you can to help- prayers are included.

Flood victims need you.
